Jets and Killer Bees put on a playoff preview show as Strathroy wins 10th in a row

Well if you wanted a small taste of what a potential playoff series between the Strathroy Jets and Alvinston Killer Bees would look like, and you weren't around last year, then you got one this past Friday. A packed Gemini Sportsplex of over 800 fans saw the Jets extend their winning streak to 10 games with a 6-3 win over the Killer Bees to grab first place in the Metropolitan's South Division which only lasted one day before Alvinston got it back following a Saturday win over Halton Hills.

The night had the backdrop of Farmer's Night and Community Over Cancer, as Strathroy wore farmer's suspender replica uniforms to the crowd's delight on top of the entire evening raising thousands of dollars for Community Over Cancer, capped off with some social time, a live auction and live band to celebrate the evening.

On the ice, the intensity level by both clubs was very evident from the opening faceoff. Alvinston held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 only to have the Jets fight back each time. Strathroy outshot Alvinston 40-31, and now have recorded 120 shots on goal in their last two outings.

Although, losing Captain Wes Baker early in the game to a questionable boarding major penalty which could result in some time missed, multiple players for Strathroy picked up the slack registering two points each whereas James McEwan, the conference's leading scorer figured in on all three Killer Bees goals.

Special teams weren't a real factor as seven of the nine goals were scored at even strength with Alvinston marking a powerplay goal and the Jets tallying while shorthanded. Jets Head Coach Jacques Beaulieu orchestrated a master class Friday night making sure he took full advantage of the last change and guaranteeing as much as possible that he had the right personnel on the ice that he wanted in any situation.

Strathroy will try to make it 11 straight wins Friday night as they host Six Nations at the Gemini at 7:30pm.
