Jets at cruising altitude riding a 5-game win streak
One of if not the hottest teams in the Northern Premier Hockey League right now is the Strathroy Jets following a 5-3 win on the road Saturday in Stratford. With the win, Strathroy moves into sole possession of 2nd place in the South division 2 points clear of third place Stratford and 5 points back of division leaders Alvinston with a game in hand on both clubs.
The difference in Saturday's win could have came in the opening 20 minutes of the contest as the Jets scored 3 unanswered goals grabbing an early lead heading to the break. Jamie Macqueen's 4th of the year, Mitchell Fitzmorris' 3rd of the campaign and Blake Griffiths his 1st goal of the season contributed to the 3-goal lead. Other Strathroy Jets goals in the game came from Chris McGuffin with his 2nd of the season and eventual game winner, and team points leader Captain Wes Baker added his 10th of the year.
Evan DeBrouwer was steady in the Jets net stopping 28 of 31 shots he faced, his 5th win of the season and cracking the 900 save percentage club sitting now at .901.
Strathroy now on a 5-game win streak, the team is averaging just over 4 goals a game and special teams slowly but surely trending in the right direction with the powerplay up to 18% efficiency rate and the penalty kill respectable at a 91% success rate.
Wes Baker continues to lead the team in goals with 9 and points with 16 after 12 games while Brandon Buck is averaging 2 points a game and has registered at least 1 point in all 7 games he's played leading the team with 10 assists.
Strathroy returns home this week after a mini road trip as the Woodstock Lakers are in at the Gemini for a 7:30pm start.
