Jets cap off Woodstock home and home with 7th straight win - host Orangeville Friday
The Strathroy Jets continued their winning ways during the stretch between Christmas and New Years as they doubled up the Woodstock Lakers 8-4 on Saturday. Strathroy won both ends of the home and home good enough for 7 straight wins now and a solid hold on 2nd place in the Metropolitan's South Division.
A much tighter game this time around compared to the opener of the home and home as the Jets held a slim 3-2 lead after 20 minutes at the Reeves Community Complex. The second period was the difference as Strathroy outscored Woodstock 2-0 in the period to take a commanding 3-goal lead into the final frame.
Chris McGuffin led the way for Strathroy with 2 goals and an assist earning the 1st star of the night. Mike Vanden Elzen had 2 goals including the eventual winner, and Jamie MacQueen earned 3rd star accolades with a goal and assist. Five other Jets had 2-point games, and the Lakers' Matthew Shulist earned the 2nd star with a goal and 3 points.
Next up, what should be a good match-up as the Jets host Orangeville. The Blitz are stumbling right now, losers of four straight and have slid backwards into a first place tie with Six Nations in the North Division. Game time 7:30pm from the Gem this Friday.
