The Jets will look to "Mustard" up another win on Hot Dog night at the Gemini tonight
The two hottest teams in the Metropolitan Conference square off tonight in Strathroy, as the Jets winners of 10 straight host the Six Nations Ironmen, winners of 5 in a row and tied for first in the North Division. Strathroy could recapture first place in the Conference's South Division with a win with the idle Alvinston Killer Bees not in action until another showdown with the Jets Saturday. Strathroy won the only meeting against Six Nations thus far this year 6-4 in early December.
On the special teams side of things, both teams are tied with 13 powerplay goals but Strathroy has had 9 fewer opportunities. Strathroy's powerplay is still #1 in the conference but they will need to be weary of a Six Nations penalty kill that leads the conference in shorthanded goals with 8.
If Strathroy is going to win an 11th straight game, they'll have to do it without their Captain Wes Baker who will be sitting this one out as a 1-game suspension for a boarding major last week.
For the second week in a row, Strathroy will have the task of shutting down a potent offensive attack, which is led by the dynamic duo of Theoren Hill and Brenden Anderson. They are 3rd and 4th in conference scoring with Anderson 2nd in goals in the conference and Hill 4th in the conference in assists. Anderson is clipping at nearly a 3 point/game average amassing 38 points thus far in just 14 games. Hill on the other hand with 17 goals and 38 points in 17 games.
If last week's Jets convincing win over Alvinston was any indication of how they can handle a top offense, we should see more of the same tonight.
It's also HOT DOG RECORD NIGHT at the Gemini!
The Jets are officially challenging Strathroy to help set a record for the most hot dogs eaten at a Strathroy Jets Sr Hockey game.
Jets and Ironmen tonight at the Gemini 7:30pm
Strathroy outshot Alvinston 40-31, and now have recorded 120 shots on goal in their last two outings.
Although, losing Captain Wes Baker early in the game to a questionable boarding major penalty which could result in some time missed, multiple players for Strathroy picked up the slack registering two points each whereas James McEwan, the conference's leading scorer figured in on all three Killer Bees goals.
Special teams weren't a real factor as seven of the nine goals were scored at even strength with Alvinston marking a powerplay goal and the Jets tallying while shorthanded. Jets Head Coach Jacques Beaulieu orchestrated a master class Friday night making sure he took full advantage of the last change and guaranteeing as much as possible that he had the right personnel on the ice that he wanted in any situation.
Strathroy will try to make it 11 straight wins Friday night as they host Six Nations at the Gemini at 7:30pm.
